Jane Fonda's Emotional Tribute to Dolly Parton: The Love That Shaped Her

Jane Fonda became emotional discussing her longtime friend Dolly Parton in a new interview after the musician’s death. “She meant love,” Fonda, 88, said while trying to hold back tears during the Monday, August 31, episode of Democracy Now! “She really did. She loved everyone.” The 9 to 5 actress remembered spending 10 days with Parton on a tour bus as they explored Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas and other parts of the country. The lessons and memories from the trip remain with Fonda today. “I was in deep hollows of Tennessee and Arkansas where people lived in tarpaper shacks with no electricity or running water, and [Dolly] would come in in her full regalia,” Fonda shared. “They loved her so much that they accepted my presence. And it was so clear that she absolutely respected them.” She continued, “That was why there was so much love. She never played down. She always was pulled together. She was always who she was out of respect for her fans. She taught me the importance of acknowledging and respecting fans.” News broke on August 25 that Parton had died peacefully in Nashville at the age of 80. Although her official cause of death has yet to be announced, a spokesperson for the country music icon revealed that she died following a “brief battle with cancer.” While Parton may be most remembered for being a singer and philanthropist, Fonda praised the performer as a feminist. “She knew from the get-go who she was,” Fonda shared. “She knew that people would make fun of who she was because of how she looked. And so she did it first, and she did it so smart, and she was always in charge of her life.” The Oscar winner continued, “She wasn’t dumb. She had the ability, like X-Ray vision, she could see through people to their essence. Whatever the outside was, she could see, good or bad, to the essence of a person.” Parton was laid to rest during an intimate memorial service on Friday, August 28. Her team previously confirmed that she was actively working on several business opportunities up until her death. Plans to continue Dolly Parton’s SongTeller Hotel, Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum, Dolly: A True Original Musical and other projects remain on schedule. “Dolly will always be with us because she was so present, so powerful, so generous and playful that she is woven into all our lives and hearts forever,” Fonda wrote via Instagram on August 25. “Let’s be grateful for all that she has left us to ease our sadness now.” In lieu of flowers, the family continues to ask for donations to be made to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age 5, no matter their family’s income.

These researchers stay abreast of breasts.A new study reveals symmetry may matter more than size when it comes to boob appeal. While many a plastic surgeon has benefitted from the belief that bigger is better, a team of researchers from the University of Passo Fundo in Brazil found that the “perfect boob” is less about size and more about distribution.Researchers asked 239 medical students to review a series of three images and select their preferred shape. A new study reveals symmetry may matter more than size when it comes to boob appeal. A scant 10% of those surveyed preferred the 60/40 ratio, which boasts a more voluminous upper half and thus the beefiest breast of the lot.28.9% of respondents gravitated toward the low-hanging fullness of 40/60.Conversely, 61.1% of students preferred the 50/50 ratio, suggesting a partiality for equal distribution.These results contradict a 2023 study from New York University that found moderately sized breasts with greater volume in the top half earned higher attractiveness scores among both men and women. Researchers in this earlier study noted that these tip-top, top-heavy teets had more contour, upper-pole fullness and perk.In this latest study, researchers found that respondents also had preferences about nipple placement, as nearly 60% of those surveyed opted for a centrally located nip.61.1% of students preferred the 50/50 upper-to-lower pole ratio, suggesting a partiality for equal distribution. A 2024 study from Texas A&M University revealed that women with larger breasts were more likely to face verbal and indirect aggression from other women. Researchers reasoned that women with large breasts register as a threat. “It has been suggested that women have psychological mechanisms that prompt them to compete with other women, primarily in the mating arena,” the team wrote in the study.“Given the strong importance men place on women’s breast morphology, most notably size, women, in general, are attentive to this factor,” they continued. “Breast size contributed to rival derogation towards other women, with women with larger breast sizes more likely to be the victims of verbal and indirect aggression.”Tough titty indeed. On that tip, a small number of women suffer from symmastia, a real medical condition that can alter the natural shape of the chest, sometimes merging what are typically two distinct breasts into a single, continuous mound.Also known as “bread-loafing,” it’s a condition where the breasts meet or fuse in the center of the chest, leaving little to no cleavage and creating the appearance of a single “uniboob.”

Former gang leader Duane “Keffe D” Davis has been convicted of the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur in Paradise, Nevada. A jury in Las Vegas deliberated for only three hours on Monday, August 31, before finding Davis, 63, guilty of murder with the use of a deadly weapon, reports The Associated Press. He could now face life in prison. Following the verdict, Davis said aloud that he “would like to appeal this matter.” He was told by Judge Carli Kierney that he could file an appeal once sentencing was announced. (Davis pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.) Members of Shakur’s family, including his sister Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur, were present in the courtroom as the verdict was announced. Monday’s verdict brought to a close a weeklong trial, which took place just shy of 30 years after Shakur was killed at age 25 in a drive-by shooting in Paradise, Nevada, on September 7, 1996. On that night, Shakur, Death Row Records label boss Marion "Suge" Knight Jr. and several associates attended a boxing match between Mike Tyson and Bruce Seldon at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Security footage from the hotel captured the moment Shakur got into an altercation with Orlando Anderson, an associate of the South Side Compton Crips gang, over accusations that Anderson had previously robbed Death Row-affiliated gang members. After the altercation, Shakur left the hotel with Knight in a 1996 BMW 750iL. A white Cadillac allegedly pulled up beside Shakur’s vehicle at a stoplight moments later and opened fire. Tupac was shot four times: once in the arm, once in the thigh, and twice in the chest, with one of those bullets getting lodged in his right lung. He was rushed to nearby University Medical Center of Southern Nevada in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead from internal bleeding less than a week later on September 13, 1996. No arrests were made at the time and it was long considered a cold case until Davis, Anderson’s uncle and a former leader of the South Side Compton Crips gang, was charged with first-degree murder with a deadly weapon in September 2023. Prosecutors accused Davis of ordering the shooting and supplying an undetermined gunman with a weapon, though he denied those accusations. (Anderson died on May 29, 1998, at age 23.) During the trial, prosecutors introduced excerpts from Davis’ 2019 book, Compton Street Legends, in which he and his co-writer Yusuf Jah accused Shakur and his associates of “crossing the line” when they scuffled with Anderson at the MGM Grand on the night of the shooting. “Them jumping on my nephew gave us the ultimate green light to do something to their asses,” a passage in the book read. The defense argued that the book was entirely fictional, noting that Davis was incorrectly called “Keithy D” in Compton Street Legends. “You have no evidence that Davis ever ordered a hit on anyone,” defense attorney Michael Sanft told the jury in his closing statements. Prosecutor Binu Palal told jurors that Davis secured a gun and “went hunting” for Shakur, later telling “anybody who would listen” that he was responsible for the rapper’s murder. Tragic End for Nonverbal Girl: Saylor Hayes Found Dead in South Carolina Waters

A missing 5-year-old girl was found dead after authorities said she “wandered away” from a home her family had been renting in a South Carolina beach town. The child, Saylor Hayes, was last seen in the area of Hagley Estates in Pawleys Island on Sunday, August 30, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office. Her body was located in water “near the area where she was last seen” around 9:45 a.m. on Monday, August 31, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. Several law enforcement agencies as well as local residents were involved in the search for Saylor. “Hundreds of residents from the area searched their own properties and surrounding areas and guarded local docks,” the sheriff’s office said. “The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office thanks everyone who assisted in the search and sends its deepest condolences to the young girl’s family.” Saylor had been wearing a light blue one-piece bathing suit and also had a white lanyard around her ankle when she went missing, the sheriff’s office said. She was described as 3-foot-6 with blonde hair and blue eyes. During the search, the sheriff’s office explained that Saylor was nonverbal and advised anyone who might’ve encountered her to speak “gently and slowly” to her, as she’d “react positively to a gentle tone, smiles, and slow movements.” Authorities were trying to track her through a transponder she had been wearing, according to the agencies. In an update shared within hours of her disappearance, the sheriff’s office said deputies were trying to trace her location using Project Lifesaver as other law enforcement officials searched the local area from above using drones and a helicopter. Authorities were also searching the water on Sunday. Divers from Horry County had “examined 200 yards underwater near the rental property that the family is staying in,” the sheriff’s office said in another update on Sunday. “We’re here until we find her,” Georgetown County Sheriff Carter Weaver said in a statement prior to the discovery of Saylor’s body. Search efforts continued Monday morning. Authorities had used Project Lifesaver equipment during the search, according to authorities. Project Lifesaver is an international search and rescue program geared toward helping law enforcement find individuals considered to be at-risk, including individuals with autism, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Pawleys Island, where Saylor had been staying with her family, is a barrier island located along the coast, about a 25-mile drive south from Myrtle Beach.
