The US began blocking imports of dozens of types of Canadian goods on Tuesday as President Trump’s latest trade measures against Ottawa took effect.The restrictions kicked in at 12:01 a.m. Eastern time and hit a wide range of packaged booze, along with whey, molasses, non-alcoholic beer and one narrow class of big-engine motorcycles.The White House rolled out the three measures under broad headings covering alcohol, dairy and motor vehicles.But the actual bans are much narrower than those labels might suggest.The US began blocking imports of dozens of categories of Canadian goods on Sept. 29, including packaged alcoholic beverages, whey products, molasses and non-alcoholic beer. Ethan Cairns/The Canadian Press via APTogether, the three measures cover 68 tariff classifications — 53 involving alcoholic beverages, 14 under the dairy-related action and just one for motorcycles.Canadian cheese, for example, isn’t banned even though the dairy dispute grew out of Canada’s treatment of US cheese tariff-rate quotas.Instead, that action blocks certain Canadian whey products, several kinds of molasses and non-alcoholic beer.The motor-vehicle ban is similarly narrow. It doesn’t block Canadian passenger cars.It covers just one tariff classification: motorcycles, mopeds and similar cycles with internal-combustion engines larger than 800cc.Alcohol makes up the vast majority of the banned tariff lines.Canadian alcohol accounts for most of the tariff classifications covered by the new US import restrictions, which took effect Sept. 29. REUTERSThe list includes beer, wine and cider, as well as whisky, rum, gin, vodka, brandy, liqueurs and other spirits.Even then, not every Canadian alcoholic beverage is banned.Many of the restrictions apply only to products the government calls “Packaged” — booze sold in bottles, cans, boxes, kegs or similar containers for direct consumption. Other entries depend on factors such as container size, alcohol content or customs value.That means whether a shipment gets blocked can come down to its exact tariff classification, packaging, size, alcohol content or value.The latest US measures bar certain Canadian goods from entering the country, while many other Canadian imports remain subject to tariffs rather than an outright ban. However, last year, he publicly opened up about his 30-pound weight loss journey. “It was a big process,” he shared while speaking on a panel at the inaugural Beacher Vitality Happy & Healthy Summit in Los Angeles in May 2025. “I started in 2019 when I was living in Australia. I was on this big trip. I made it a big [deal] like, ‘Oh, I’m going to go out and do all this stuff, be in Australia,’ and I just saw how much my weight was prohibiting me from doing the everyday activities.” Christopher noted that he “tried everything” to lose weight over the years, but nothing worked for him long-term. “I was doing meal delivery things in high school, and I remember feeling like a weirdo when I was bringing weird lunches to school,” he admitted. “It’s not an overnight thing, but it took a lot of trial and error. And even still to this day … when you’re saying, ‘Oh, before-and-after photos’ … I don’t feel like I’m an ‘after’ yet. I don’t feel like I’m at the point.” Christopher revealed that giving up bread during the Catholic holiday Lent last year gave him the push he needed. “I was like, ‘Well, if I’m giving up bread, I might as well just take the opportunity,' and I’m a good Catholic boy, so I’m not going to break it,” he explained. “And that was my one rule. I was like, ‘I’m not going to break Lent.’ And so, I lost 30 pounds just through that.”

A Texas high school teacher who admitted to having sex with two teenage boys received only a slap on the wrist after one of the teen’s fathers offered his support and claimed his son was “thriving” and not traumatized by the relationship.Shelby Dawn Lashombe, 25, of Waco, who was facing decades behind bars, received a sweetheart deal of deferred probation for six years and a $1,000 fine as part of a plea deal with prosecutors last week, KWTX reported.The judge additionally ordered Lashombe to spend just four weekends in jail and another 60 days working on the county chain gang. Shelby Dawn Lashombe will only spend a few weekends in jail, a judge ruled last week. McLennan County Sheriff's OfficeIn cases ending with deferred probation, there is no final judgement of guilt and Lashombe will avoid felony conviction if she complies with the conditions of probation. Judge Thomas West told Lashombe in court Friday that he would have given her a more severe sentence if one of the boys’ fathers had not testified that his son is doing well after the twisted tryst.The boy’s father said his son is going to counseling but was not traumatized by what happened. He is excelling academically, playing well on his school football team and has recently been accepted to several universities, the dad said, according to KWTX.His son is “thriving” and does not feel victimized, the dad continued, adding that he does not consider Lashombe to be a sexual predator and does not want to see her go to prison.However that same boy’s mother, who is reportedly in a custody battle with the father, whom she divorced, said her son suffers from depression, anxiety and has isolated himself from friends and family. Lashombe was a teacher at Valley Mills high school in central Texas. She claimed Lashombe’s “calculated and predatory actions” robbed her son’s innocence.Lashombe was busted in September 2025 after police received a tip-off that she was spotted kissing a 16-year-old student. Neither of the victims were students at Valley Mills High School in central Texas, where Lashombe was teaching at the time of her arrest. She’s since been working at a furniture manufacturing company in nearby Waco, according to KWTX.The 16-year-old Lashombe was caught smooching, a known family friend, told investigators that he had sex with the teacher “more than once,” and that she knew he was underage, according to an arrest affidavit. Lashombe said that they had been having sex for about six months.Lashombe also admitted to having sex with a second boy who was under the age of 17, and who attended a different school to the first victim.“She had no control over them. She had no power as a teacher over them,” Lashombe’s attorney Cody Cleveland said. “The boys independently reached out to her through social media and one thing led to another. But this was not a situation where she used any authority as a teacher over them to make them enter into what would be considered nonconsensual acts.”Some 50 people packed into the courtroom for her sentencing hearing on Friday, nearly all of them there to support Lashombe, KWTX reported.Lashombe pleaded guilty in April to two counts of improper relationship between educator and student — second-degree felonies punishable by up to 20 years in prison.The judge said he was also moved to reduce Lashombe’s sentence due to testimony from her therapist, who said Lashombe has been diagnosed with adjustment disorders, anxiety and depression. She said the teacher also developed symptoms of PTSD for the eight hours she spent in jail after her arrest.
